The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick extends the healing of Jesus Christ to bring spiritual strength for someone who is chronically or critically ill or has an upcoming surgery.
“By the sacred anointing of the sick and the prayer of the priests the whole Church commends those who are ill to the suffering and glorified Lord, that he may raise them up and save them. And indeed, she exhorts them to contribute to the good of the People of God by freely uniting themselves to the Passion and death of Christ.”

PRAYER IN TIME OF ILLNESS
O Jesus, who suffered and died for us, You understand suffering. In my illness teach me to withstand suffering as You did; to bear it in union with You; to offer it with You to atone for my sins, and to bring Your grace to souls in need. Calm my fears; increase my trust. May I gladly accept You holy will and become more like You through every trial. If it be Your will, restore me to health so that I may work for Your honor and glory and the salvation of all peoples. Mary, help of the sick, pray for me. Amen.

Go forth, Christian soul, from this world in the name of God the Almighty Father, who created you, in the name of Jesus Christ, Son of the living God, who suffered for you, in the name of the Holy Spirit, who was poured out upon you, go forth, faithful Christian. May you live in peace this day, may your home be with God in Zion, with Mary, the Virgin Mother of God, with Joseph, and all the angels and saints. Amen.
