This is Melody Russell’s 17th year at St. Michael Catholic School. She loves being a part of the St. Michaels Catholic School family where the next generation can receive a strong foundation in spiritual, social and academic values. 

Mrs. Russell attended Western Carolina University where she received her Masters in Early Childhood Education, and a Bachelors in Education K-6.  She also received a Bachelor’s Degree as a Reading Specialist.  After being a classroom teacher for several years, she began to recognize that many factors impact a child’s education. So, she studied at the University of North Carolina in Charlotte and received her Masters Degree in Guidance and Counseling. After several years of being a Counselor in Gaston County Schools, she began to recognize that there is another important piece that impacts a child’s education and well-being.

It was in 2006 that she was blessed to be called to serve at St. Michaels Catholic School. It was at SMCS that she found the piece that she had been looking for in the education of our children.  Mrs. Russell truly believed that spiritual, academic, social, and emotional growth must go hand in hand as we seek to “train up a child as he should go.” 

Mrs. Russell enjoys spending time with her family, 2 daughters (and son in law), 6 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter. She loves attending her grandchildren's sports events, participating in her grandson’s music ministry, getting together with friends and taking classes to learn new things. As a grandmother, she feels a special devotion and connection with St. Anne.
