First Fridays

"In the excess of the mercy of My Heart, I promise you that My all powerful love will grant to all those who will receive Communion on the First Fridays, for nine consecutive months, the grace of final repentance: they will not die in My displeasure, nor without receiving the sacraments; and My Heart will be their secure refuge in that last hour."

The First Fridays Devotion, also called the Act of Reparation to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, is a Catholic devotion to offer reparations for sins. First Friday had its origin in the apparitions of Christ in France in the 17th century, reported by Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque.

At Saint Michael, First Fridays mean FUN. After attending morning Mass including Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, classes pair up with their "buddy classes". This gives an opportunity for the upper and lower schools to interact and facilitate a stronger relationship with one another. They then do a devotional craft and snack like an Edible Rosary. The Knights of Columbus provides a fish lunch for the children, followed by decadent dessert. This is followed by interactive experiences that change each First Friday - sometimes we are visited by the college sports teams from Belmont Abbey College, sometimes we have Irish dancers teach us how to do Céilí dances, and sometimes we have live wax museums! Adoration and the Mercy Matinee round out our First Friday before dismissal for home.
